THE PRICE OF OATS AND OATMEAL
Sir,—l observe that oatmeal,'"chief of Scotia's food,-" is still quoted at .£29 per ton, although onto, which wore railing at about 7s. per bushel before harvest when this price was fixed, aro now quoted at 3s. Bil. f.0.b., or little more than half. Might I set a rule of 111 sum to be worked out) by members of the Hoard of Trade? . :
If In. pe.r bushel gives £'19 per ton what will 3s. Bd. per bushel give? It is not a difficult sum, hit if the board lias not advanced any further than compound subslractiou (from the primary producers) perhaps the Acting-Prime Minister or the Hon. Mr. Miu-Donald will lielp the members to iind the answer. Unlike bread,'l don't think there is salt in oatmeal to increase its scjiyig .price. This is surely a factor in the cost of
living.—l am, etc, . FARMER.
