THE NIAGARA'S PATIENTS
SEVEN FRESH CASES REPORTED
By Telegraph—Press Association Auckland, April 7. Seven cases of influenza developed on the Niagara to-day, making a total on Ihe island of forty-six. None of the. new eases lire classed as serious, and all the patients are re-ported to be progresing. No further passengers other than patients were landed to-day.
THE SICKNESS ON'THE MONOWAI

Some uneasiness wa3 .caused at Lyttelton yesterday by the recent news that there was an epidemic suspect on board the Monowai, which arrived from Wellington and Auckland. The patient, a woman passenger, was 'brought to Cnristeliurch Hospital for observation.. Dr. Chesson, District Health Officer, stated to-day that the case was rertamly not pneumonic influenza, and the symptoms really pointed to gastric trouble. Referring to the fact that Hie Monowai came from Auckland, Dr. Chesson. remarked that she left there two days before the Niagara arrived, so there was no cause for anxiety on that account.
The' District Health Officer at Christchurch reported ,to the Health Department tha', Dr. lipha-m, Port Health Officer, visited the Monowai on arrival at Lyttelton on Sunday morning, when it was reported that a lady passenger showing symptoms of illness had the previous evening disclosed a high temperature. An examination showed her temperature to be normal and that any sickness was of a very mild type. Immediate steps had been taken to isolate the passengers on board the vessel on the tirst appearance of sickness. It was not considered necessary to take- any further action than to remove the patient to hospital, and the vessel will proceed to Dunedhv
INFLUENZA CASES IN CANTERBURY AND WESTLAND. By Telegraph—Press Association.
. Christchurch, April 7. A few cases of influenza are being reported in the Canterbury-Westland public health district from week to week, but thqre is absolutely , 'nothing in the position to warrant fears that the epidemic is recurring. In the week ended at noon to-day four cases of influenza were reported ill'-' tho Canterbury-West-land public health district. All four were in the North Canterbury Hospital Board's area. Two were mild and the other two pneumonic. During the month of March'there were only twenty-three notifications of influenza throughout canterbury and'Westland, and almost all the cases were mild.
