THE OLD KEYS OF METZ
The following words of 31. Clemencaau, in hid, address at Metis, recount an incident which is significant:— Monsieur le Maine,—When the Germans entered lletz, as the result of an act of Imi'son, and violated the city, General Lapasset v:as fortunate enough to lie able to pl'aco the keys of the city in safety. They wero carefully preserved by his family, who gave them to ine, and to-day I entrust them again to your care. Guard them well. ''We shall know how,to guard them for ever," cried the Mayor, taking the Ted leather case which M. Clemenceau handed to him.
