The Hon. W. 11. Herries will be back from Auckland by this afternoon's tiain. The Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald returned yesterday from his visit to the Jaranaki district. Tho Hon. D. H. Guthrie left on a visit to the Taranaki and Ohura districts yesterday. He will not return to Wellington until after Easter. ' The Hon. J. A. Hanan, who has been in the Wairarapa district, will return to Wellington this , evening. Mr. E. M'Villy, Cisneral Manager of Railways, is indisposed, suffering from an attack of influenza! Dr. •Valintine, Chief Health Officer, was unable, on account of pressure of official business, to leave Wellington for Auckland yesterday, but Dr. Makgill has proceeded to Auckland instead. Advice has lwen received that Lieuten-ant-Colonel Newman Wilson, D.S.O. and Bar, M.C., will reach New Zealand with the Remuera about April 29. This young officer went to the front as a lieutenant in the Canterbury Regiment with the Second Reinforcements. During his four and a half years' service at Gallipoli and in France he was wounded six limes. His wife awaits his return at Wellington and is at present the guest of lief sister, Mrs., William AVaddel, of Kelburn. The funeral of the late Captain George Lambert look place yesterday afternoon, ami the great popularity of the deceased master mariner was apparent from tho large attendance of mourners. The Rev. Dr. Elliott, of the Kent Terrace Presbyterian Church, conducted a short service at the residence of Mrs. Lambert before the cortege left for tlie cemetery at Karori. Smith, superintendent of. mercantile marine at Wellington; and Captain F. A. M'lndue, secretary of the Merchant Service Guild. Sailors from ships in port were present in numbers testifying to the high regard in which Captain Lambert was held by-those who were under his command, Licut.-Colonel Maurice was also present, as wore members of the several lodges to which the deceased belonged.
The Canterbury Education Board has appointed Mr. Leonard L. Pogler vicepiincinal of the Christchurch Normal Training College. Mr. Peglcr for the nasi twelve years has been headmaster of the Hastings District High School.
Mr. H. M'Fnrlanc, of Seatoun, has . just, received, notice that his youngest, son,. Sergeant 11. M. M'Fiirlaue, M.M., is returning to Mew Zealand after an absence of three. and a half years. He will arrive at Auckland by the Bhaino about April 24. Sergeant Jl'Farlane went away with the Seventh Reinforcements, and after some time. in Egypt joined the first Wellington West Coast Infantry Brigade, and went to France,, where he has had a varied and exciting experience. Mr. Ernest AV. Hunt, F.P.A., (N.Z.), who has' held the of secretary of' the New Zealand Society Account? ants since its inception in 1909, has tendered his resignation on account of increasing pressure of work in connection > with his firm's practice. The council I of the society,, in accepting the resignaI tion, placed mi record its very deep regret, and its high appreciation of the invaluable services rendered by Mr. limit during his long term of office. Mr. Hunt, will probably remain in oltice until the annual meeting in August next, and npplications for the position will !>e invited in the meantime.
