WARM WELCOME AT AUCKLAND. Sy TeloEroph— Press Association. Auckland, April G. Tlio steamer AVestmorelaud, with the Maori Pioneer Battalion on board, arrived in harbour last night, and Jjcing declared a clean ship the troops were landed this morning. The Maoris were greeted with the- greatest enthusiasm, mill were cheered all the way to the Domain, headed by a band. Here Sir James Allen took the <-aliite, and the men were aiven a typical Native welcome by representatives of the tribes who are in camp :ir the Domain. Many speeches wum made. Aiming those present were the lion. W. 11. Herri's, Dr. Poraare, and • ir James Carroll. The East Coast Maoris leave by the Mapourika to-night, and Sir James Allen will accompany them,
The Westmoreland, the Minister of Public Health stated last evening, had been declared a clean ship, so that there will be no delay whatever in connection with the landing, of the Maori troops. Mr. Russell expressed himself as profoundly thankful that this was tho case.
