PUBLIC NOTICES. ANOTHER LiaiJOß FAKE EXPOSED. THE COST OF LIVING. Thfl Trade's Claims "That Prohibition means an immediate increase in the Customs Tariff, affecting probably Tea, Sugar, and Tobacco, and substantial increases in the Land Tax snd the Income Tax on incomes below .£SOO per annum." In several of our 'Picture Thoatm, and in their fulUpage advertisement appearing in "Truth," March 22nd, the Trade states plainly what these iacreases will be. They give them as under, and claim thati—Ten. will rise to os. Kid. per Ib., sugar will rise to ojd. per lb,, tobacco will rise to Ws. per 11>., and house rents, 3s. to ss. per week. Let us see how truthful this Liquor claim is:— Alleged Present Average Raised Increased Price per lb. Price. Taxation s. d. s, d- e> d, Tea 2 2 5 10 3 8 Sugar 0 3 0 5J 0 2$ Tobacco .10 0 10 0 $ 0 House Rents raised an. average of 4s. per week. The 191" Year Book reveals that, the following quantities cf Tea, Sugar, and Tobacco were imported, and that there ere 334,9ii5 households in the Poniinion, which results ss under-.— Tea, 7,982,1951b5., at 3s. Sd. per lb £1,463,403 8 i Sugar, 1,249,069cwt6., at 2Jd. per lb 1,457,278 IS 4 Tobacco, 3,853,65"1b5., at fe. per lb 7,156,097 2 0. Households, 234,925, at 4s. per week each 2.,4i3,220 0 0 •je6,519,99pi' 3 8 Adding together the Trade's own figures, of the alleged losses t/hrough Prohibition, taken from, their first, second and third claims, they show a total loss of jil,010,325. Why 46,019,998 Ss. Bd. is required to meet a Iras of .£1,619,1)25, the Trade does not attempt to explain, but if it is as far out in its estimate of how the loss must be made up, the Trade's figure s become valueless to electors, and the wnole thing looks remarkably like an attempt to frighten the Tinfenowjng into voting Continuance, eud is on a par with its Dr. Valintinc proclamation fake. THEREFORE, VOTE FOR THE CHILD ANQ THE NATION 9-N THURSDAY. 20 WHAT WOULD YOU CALL IT?; In the. "EvenitiK Post" of Saturday the Trade published what it called "THESE PACTS" about Maine, "from the 'Statesman's Year Book, , 1918, p. 521"; Paupers .... 1681, being 129.8 per 100,000 of the population. Prisoners... 2146, being 165.7.per 100,000 of tli« population. MAINE'S actual figures are (poge 518 "Statesman's Year Book," 1918): Paupers 945, being 127.3 per 100,000 of the population. Prisoners ~. 730, being 98.3 per 100,000 of the population. The "Trade's" "Facts" are not for MAINE at all, but for MARYLAND, one of the "Wettest" States, and one of the three which have not voted for Permanent Prohibition. FOETY.FIVI3 OUT OF FORTY-EIGHT STATES HATE. This is what the "Trade" calla "ANOTHER PROHIBITION TRICK EXPOSED." j HONEST MEN AND WOMEN WILL CALL IT SOMETHING ELSE! The figures in the above ad Tertisement were submitted to the Editor of "Tho Dominion," who checked them by the "Statesman's Year Book" and certified to their accuracy. ANOTHER OF THE SAME FAMILY. mHE LATEST LIQUOR MANUFACTURE HAS ALL THE FAMILY FEATURES. It is closely related to the SPURIOUS PROCLAMATION; THE COOKED CABLE; THE FOUK- ' TEEN POINTS; THE DECEPTIVE USE OF THE NAMES OF TJ/IE CHIEF JUSTICE AND OF THE Y.M.C.A., AND THE FALSE BGURES ABOUT MAINE. The cable which etatee that a majority of 250,000 voted against ProhVbition in New York or Chicago. IS FALSIFIED INTO "AMERICA has repudiated Prohibition 'by a quarter of a million votes." TELLING LIQUOR LIES MUST BE LIKE RUNNING DOWN H'ILL. ONCE STARTED DIFFICULT TO STOP! THERE CANNOT BE ANY VALID LOCAL VOTE AGAINST NATIONWIDE PROHIBITION IN AMERICA. IT WAS CARRIED BY A TWO-THIRDS MAJORITY IN BOTH HOUSES OF PARLIAMENT, TO BECOME PART OF THE CONSTITUTION IT REQUIRED TO BE RATIFIED BY THREEFOURTHS OF THE STATES WITHIN SEVEN YEARS. IN LESS THAN THREE YEARS FORTY-FIVE 0U7. , OF FORTY-EIGHT STATES RATIFIED, AND PROHIBITION WILL BECOME OPERATIVE THROUGHOUT THE NATION IN JANUARY, 1920. WAR-TIME PROHIBITION BECOMES OPERATIVE IN JULY OF THIS YEAR, AND CONTINUES FOR TWELVE MONTHS,, SO THAT THERE CAN BE N.O REOPENING OF THE SALOONS IN THE WHOLE OF THE UNITED STATES. BE SURE YOU HELP NEW ZEALAND TO FOJ/LOW AMERICA'S GREAT EXAMPLE! THE YANKS ARE NO FIfIOLS!
