PRESIDENT WILSON AND PROVIDENCE

To a Free Church deputation, headed by Sir Robert Perks and Dr. F. B. Meyer, which wailed upon him, President Wilson made an interesting personal confession of faith. In tho address presented l>y the "Free Churchmen there was n; clause which said: "Wo believo.you recognise that the sanctions of religion lU'o vital to givo permanent effect to tho principles in which we all helievo. In replying tlio President, who was gracious aiul cordial in his reception of the delegation, spoke of the "comradeship or spirit" indicated by flhe gathering, nnd added gravely: "You aro qmto right in saying that I do recognise tho sanctions of religion in a most reverent way. In these times of conflict, when matters so largo arc -to be settled, a. man would go "crazy if he did not boliovo in I'rovidence. It would bo a maze without a clue. Unless there was some supreme guidance ono would despair of the results of human counsel." ■
