TOWN-PLANNING CONFERENCE
; Mr. S. Hurst Seager, honorary organ- [ ieer of the Town-Planning Conference and I Exhibition, has returned from n tour of ; the northern districts. He informed a I Dominion reporter yesterday that ho had r been very gratified to find how keen '■. was the interest of the municipalities in the reforms that camo under the heading • qf town-planuing. Tho housing problem ; '6ecmed 'to be acute in almost every ! centre. The supply of good homes was : not sufficient for the needs of the people, iantl local authorities were realising that : they must effect some improvement. \ They were keen to get information arid ' consider practicable schemes. He had '- been able to form many branches of the 'Town-Planning Association. Some of : the local bodies had asked permission to : send extra delegates to the Town-Plan-ning Conference. There was no objec- ; fton to this being done. It wan particu--1 lerly important that tho executive oni- • cere of t!ie local bodies should get to the conference, since they wero tho men : who would have to handb many of the ■practical details of reform. ■ ' To-day Mr. Hurst Seager will leave for the South Island. He is to address a meetinsr in Christchurch to-morrow night under tho auspices of tho Canterbury Prozressive League. Later ho will visit other centres in tho South Island, and will arrange for the formation of addi- : tic-nal branches of the Town-Plnnning 1 Association. These branches, h e anticipates, will perform an important function by acting' as .advisory bodies to the :•, local authorities, and helping to guide tho adyanco of housing .reform along sound lines.
