FOR THE RETURNED SOLDIERS' CLUB

FRIDAY'S. APPEAL.

The appeal which is being made on Friday on behalf of the I!e}uVnGd Soldiers'" Club is ono that merits every consideration, and it is hoped, that-the effortwill, moro than realise the sum desired. The value of the club as a kind of central depot for the men. as they disembark from tho transports is self-evident, for many of them have to spend several hours in Wellington wailing for trains or boats to convey them to. more or less distant parts of: Ne\v : Zealand. H is indeed more, specially useful to this men belonging to other parts of New ftea-< land than it is to Wellington moil, for tlio latter have their homes to go to as soon as'they leave" the steamers At the chiV the soldiers are able to gather valuable, information as to the possibilities of tho future; there they meet old friends mid comrades' whom Ihcy may not have met for months or possibly for years, and gradually they come back I o civilian lifts and ways instead of being, suddenly precipitated into a mode of liio from, which they had becom alienated. Without tho club the returning soldiers would be at n very great disadvantage, « condition affairs lha.t would not be creditable lo the people not only of.Wdlitgton but elsewhere, since the soldiers from all over New Zealand are at the present time finding the club a very hospitable and helpful resting-placo. during the timo they are awaiting transport to their homes elsewhere. New Zealand soldiers have won for. themselves a. splendid reputation'not only-on the field of battle but away from it as well,, and it is but lilting that the people who owe somucli should see to it that everything is (lone to help them on arrival in N'ew Zealand, their homeland.
