WORK WELL DONE
AOTEA CONVALESCENT HOME. A cablegram received from Egypt last month by the honorary treasurer of the Aotea Convalescent Home Fund (Mr. James Macintosh) stated that the institution wag closing down. Mr. Macintosh wrote to the Minister of Defence asking if further funds wore required and requesting information as to the disposal of the property on hand. He has received a reply from Sir James Allen stating that the following official cablegram has come from the Army authorities in Egypt:— Aotea Convalosconl: Home should 1)0 closed probably early in April. Sisters Booth, M'Laren, and Cameron returned on Kaikoura, March 7. Sisters M'Donell and M'Donald (two) returning probably next boat. Sisters Early and Hujhee embark for Ensr- . land shortly. Anticipate funds will .be sufficient. Property on hand being sold." "I desire to place on lecord," adds Sir James Allen, "my full appreciation of the splendid work done by" (he matron and staff of the home. There is no question but that the influence they hrtire exercised over our men has boon of the greatest benefit. The home lias proved a boon to tiic men, and the management has been referred to in eulogistic terms by the military authorities, who freely recognise what 'ii benefit tlio institution has been to them. "Will you permit me to express to you and your colleagues' my appreciation of all that you have done in"connection with the retablishiufr and upkeep of the home? You can well be proud of your efforts, and many parents- in New Zealand are grateful for the benefits accorded their sonp while serving their country in Egypt."
