o LIVELY INTEREST IN AMALGAMATION. At the meeting at Mii'itin'ar on Monday, addressed by the Mayor o£ the borough (Mr. F. Townsc-nd), that gentleman dwelt on the subject of amalgamation, and argued that it would not pay Miraninr to amalgamate with tlw city, .and mentioned the difference in the rates. On that point the Mayor was assailed by Mrs. -M'Viear (a .prospective candidate), who argued by comparative figures, carefully -worked out, that the rates in Miramar were higher than those in tho city, and that Minimal: is probably the lushest rated borSagh in tho Wellington province. ' It was also pointed out to the Mayor that Miramar only enjoyed the conveniences of .civilisation by favouv of tho city of Wellington, inasmuch as Wellington provided the borough with a tramway service, electric light, water, and drainThere is to be another mcetiug of tho Miramar electors at the Masonic Hall this'evening. The Mayor and'members of the council are invited to give an account of their stewardship, and submit same to criticism. There is said to be a distinct ware of feeling in favour of amalgamation in the borough, and, if Flic parties moving in the matter succeed at the olection, the isMie is to be placed before the electors as soon ns all information on the subject has been digested.
