ALLEGED TOHUNGAISM
TRIAL OF CHATHAM ISLAND NATIVES ABANDONED.

Christchurch, April 1. Advice received from the Chatuam islands states that the Justice Department has decided to abandon the trial of Hare Piwari Peter Piwari, and Pitau Panirsiu, who were charged with the' 'manslaughter in.June, mB, of Bin Horo-' mqna Rehe, who died i'S the result of injuries said to have been, inflicted by tne accused while practising tohungaisni.' the other accused, Katie Piwari, died last November. 'The accused were committed for trial a.t the August, 1918, sittings of the Supreme Court at Christchurch, but the case 1 ad to be held over from time to time en account of the difficulty of conveying the prisoners to New Zealand, consequent on the loss of the Himitangi, the regular island trader.
