WELCOMES FOR THE MAORIS

A SERIES OF RECEPTIONS.

There will bo somewhat prolonged jollifications when the Maori soldiers nre being feted on arrival at the appointed towns for the ■welcome celebrations, and Ilia Minister of Defence has telegraphed to the -Mayors of the towns concerned to a* them to accept at least some ot the responsibility for the good behaviour of the men. their accommodation, food, and so on, and to assist the Defence authorities in Retting the men embarked at the appointed time. , . The Maoris are expected to arrive ro Auckland on Saturday by the Westmoreland. The arrangements are that they Mill all come ashore in Auckland for a reception there. The Bast Coast Maoris are to embark the same evening on the Mapourika for Oisborne, and there landed. Those who have to come on to Napier to be distributed from there will stay only twenty-four hours in Gisbarne. and then will be brought on by Hie Mapourika. Others for distribution from Wellington will come on m the Mapourika. The Maoris from the West Coast of the South Island, and from the South Island will come by train from Auckland to VUngamn, to be welcomed by their peoplo there, the South Island Maoris, alter a short stay at Wanganui. will bo brought on from t'-ere. and they are to assemble at Iwinpoi for another reception there. _ I lies© men will be distributed from Iva-apoi.
