CROPS IN THE RANGITIKEI
(By Telegraph-Special Corrc»pondcnt.) Palmerston North, April 1. The results .of the harvest in the Itangitikei district aro, from all appearanco, eminently satisfactory to growers. The wheat crops show ii yield' up to-fti bushels per acre, whilst unite a number have reached over 50 bushel?.: The.average of the district is estimated to bo 35 bushels per acre, which heats the previous two seasons' averages by.about 12 -bushels per acre. This is a yield of which th.e grain-growing- districts -in, the-i.South Island would bo proud, and is ample proof that certain .localities in the North Island are quito as suitable for wheatRrmring as tho best lands in the Souih Island. It is learned that tho yield of oats has been, extremely good, and as most of the heads are, well filled with plump grain, it is a pity that no thrashing is resorted to. However, with the recent fall of prices in this cereal, it is not surprising that the bulk of the crop will be turned into chaff, as the strawis clean and. bright, 'arid the yield is estimated at two tons to the acre...Farmers in that locality should' riot be short of dry feed if tho winter proves a hard one. ■ .
