HUTT AND PETONE NEWS
Mr. W. Dempsey, headmaster of the Hutt District High School, who is retiring on superannuation, was made the recipient of a presentation from the committee and stalf. Mr. E. P. Kishworth, chairman, made the presentation on behalf of the committee, and Misses Williams and Myers for the staff.' Tho presentation consisted of a gold fountain, pen, pipe, and silver match-box. A meeting of the public mid various committees in connection with the peace, celebrations will beheld in tiio Mayor's, room at 7.30 this evening. At the monthly meeting of the. Women's Christian Temperance Union the following resolution, moved by Mrs. liouse, was passed :-'"That this meeting movo that the Mayor i.Mr. J. AV. M'Ewan) represent tho W.C.'L'.'U. in presenting to the Hon. T. M. Wilford, M'iP., a petition for the repeal of tho sentence passed on Alice Parkinson, who was sentenced to imprisonment for the term of her natural life for manslaughter at Napier four years ago."
