Burins the war 950,CC0 tons have been added to Germany's merchant fleet, principally made up of liner tonnage, the bulk of this being for account of- the Hamburg-Ameriksi Line and the North German Lloyd. Out of a total of 5.CC0.0C0 tons gross which Germany had on Juno 30, 1914, the associated lines controlled 3,194,000 tons, made up of the following :■■■ Tons. Ifamburg-Amcrika Line 1,093,0(30 North German Lloyd 716,000 namburg-South American Line 263,000 Hansa Line 339,000 German-Australian Lino 264.000 ICosmoß Line ; 179,000 Roland Line 75,000 German East Africa Line 1C5.C00 Woermann Line 112.CC0 Hamberg-Bremen-Africa Line 4.!',CCO Total 3,194,000 There is as yet no sign that the potentiality of tlio German lines for continuing their old tactics after war, and unless the Peace Conference decides to prevent tile recurrence of the old strangulation methods by German lineß, there will Vo keen disappointment in international shipping circlet.
