In viow of tho continued serious spread 'of influenza and tho increasing deathrate, the restrictions are being further tightened. A number of schools have been closed. The emergency preparations, include the taking over of a number of public buildings for h'ospital purposes. The infected areas now include- many country districts. . .' ' ' • The latest reports from Victoria sta'te that there tho disease is shoiving renewed vitality, and there is an increaso in the number of deaths, though this may bo a temporary fpurt. A meeting of manufacturers passed a resolution suggesting that the Government should compensate them for the losses incurred through the abandonment of tho agricultural sliow.
