"This man has no fixed place of abodo," declared Mr. C.,S. Thomas, who appeared for defendant in a ea6e heard before Mr. T. A. B. Bfliley, S.M., at tlio Magistrate's Court at Christchurch 011 Friday; The defendant, AlfredSa'.rm. or Snlansky, was charged that, being an alien, he. failed to notify an alteration in his address. Mr. Thomas explained that Salan was a member of a travelling show, end that oil 110 occasion, in four years, had he been resident in one town in New Zealand for more than n fow days, except 011 one occasion, when he was ill with influenza in Cbrisloluirch. The Act required the notification of a new placo of abode to be sent in, within fourteen clays of the change of residence; but,in this case the defendant had no fixed place of abode, in the eyes of the law 110 wns a resident of Gisborne, having registered there three years ago. The Magistrate imposed a bno of 20s. and costa, and tola Salon he would require to notify his residence anew ovary fourteen days, no matter in what town lie was.
