STAKES WON BY NOBLEMAN. (By Telegraph—Special Correspondent.) . Marton, March l! 7. There was a large attendance for the second day of the Riingitikei Racing Club's Meeting. 'The tolalisator investments amouuted to i;21,(i21, against JJ22,036 for tlio siime day last year. The total for the meeting was ,£50,489, an increase of ,£B3B over lant year. Inah was the popular pick for tlio opening event, the Gre.itford Stakes, Rawakoro being the next in demand of an evenly backed lot. Play Off" wns ~ tlio outsider ■of the field. The field moved oft' well in line, Inah'and : Starengo koing to the'front. ,Cb6lpsin ; was chopped, out, racing in the rear with Play Off. Inah alid Starenso were together at the turn. for. home, the fighting out a fine finish', .Starengo lasting longest arid' winning nicely. Madam . Ris.tori was fourth, just behind Play Off.' Hallow was withdrawn from the'Ratigitoto Hack Handicap. Borealis wns niade a strong order; and Carmel Arch "and Nemaline were the most fancied of . 'tlie other. Metallum wad left tadly,.' thi rest getting away well in line. N,emnline. made the paco to the bond, where Zela, Carmel Arch, aiid Borealis closed \lp. Carmel- Arch looked a winner 100 Vards from home, but l' ; Rayner brought Zela up on the rails with a fine run .and got ' the verdict. She'ran a good rflce. alis' was a leni;th behind Carmel'"Atcb. with Endure next. The big field'got awav.well in the Hurdles except Sweet Tippefai'v, who was bndly left. Iliisluilaii' and Movemerit ' lrtado' the' pace for '• half the die-. tancS, ivhen Husnman drew out followed by AYillys Knight iiiid Vacuum. The last-named, who was favourite, came to grief at the Back, his rider, A. M'Donhld, being galloped oyer' and kicked on the shoulder. Willys KniKht and Hushmari fought out a great finish, the fprifter; getting the verdict, by the narrofrest- of* margins, with Gunwale close up. Sweet Tipperary was fourth, _ M'Donhld-'-was badly shaken, but his injuries ate riot serious. '
Bronze Queen was scratched for- the Maiden Handicap, Papartui and Glentbur coming in' for most supitort. The sixteen starters got ■ away • well together.' Otonga, Papanui, and Gleutour were prominent till the straight' was reached, where Otonga fell back, the other pair fighting out'a good finish which ended in Papanui's favour,- with Yankee Jack and Simon close up. ; ■ - ".
Dingle .'was scratched for the Frailer Memorial Stakes, leaving seven to go to the post. Moutoa Ivttnova was made a .hot favourite, the best backed of the others being Sonnino. . Noblemart;'-. aiid Zola in that order. From a good start Sonnino and Zola were together in the lead until the bend, where Zola took charge. .Nobleman put in. a'claim in tho straight, and, galloping Well, cut' Zfllri down and won easily: Henry Clay' was fourth. Nobleman was ridden a different race to that he ran in the Cud, in which he made the pace. He was -kept in behind to-day until the. straight was reached, when, he proved too' good'for his opponents, winning like a racehorse. Zela was withdrawn from the Hack Welter Handicap, Idle • Talk finding most support, with Tiranga next in demand. Tiranga and Cadet made. the running for half the distance, when Idle Talk closed up and led intoth e straight. She faded out of it at the business end, Tiranga getting home from Pomerov, who came fast at the finish. Signorella was fourth. ' .
There were only Ave starters in the Raumai Welter Handicap; which was won by the outsider of the_ field —Din<j]e. Cello was a red-hot favourite, and when lie got away with the best,of the start the race appeared to he all over. How-., over. Dingle was well placed all the way, and came away in the straight, followed by Hastie, the'pair fighting .out a irood finish. Dingle gained the ■ .verdict by a narrow margin. Cello. did', not respond when called upon in .the fit might. -.Ho had every chance to'win liad he been good enough.
