NEW ANGLICAN CATHEDRAL

ERECTION ASSURED WITHIN A FEW YEARS. Satisfactory progress is being made with tho scheme for an Anglican dral for Wellington. At a meeting ot the committee which has charge of the cathedral'affairs the treasurer reported that the cash received to date amounted (i ,£9163. In addition to this there were definite promises of payments by instalments spread over live years of <£25,009. \ further sum of JC2200, cash balance in. cornection with the previously proposed cathedral in Taranaki Street, wluch has been abandoned in favour of the new scheme, would be transferred shortly to tho new Cathedral Fund. An nmount of £30,000 in connection with a bequest would probably be made available berore the building was started. This gave ft grand total of .£GG.G(i3 m sight tor the building fund. The two acres., owned by the Church in Taranaki Street, which were to have been used for the eaily cathedral, are worth £20,000, and the revenue is to be used as an endowment lor the maintenance of the cathedra] on Mark's site. A committee was set up # tr» report on. tho best method of obtaining a full iftvenue from this endowment, and 'report to the next meeting. The committee expressed grntiucnvion at the progress of the movement and the position of the finances of the scheme, which made the building of the cathediiU assured within a few years. The Rev. C. F, Askew, lion, organiser, has left for England, where he will place the plans and designs drawn by >u\ Frank Peck, F.D.1.H.A., of kelson, before Sir Aston Webb, F.S.A., for mticism and. approval.
