AJ ANA'S DRAFT ARRIVES,

The Wellington and southern sections of the draft of returned soldiers by the transport Ajana (No.' ?24) arrived at tha Thorndon Station at 2.20 p.m. yesterday, r.nd wero Riven fi joyous and hearty weloome b.v a large assemblage of the public as they left the station. The Wellington Patriotic band (under Bandmaster Jupp) played a number of "cheer* up" selections, and the Volunteer Motor Corps were present in fair strength to tf.ke the Wellington men to their various destinations. The returned men were informally welcomed by the Mayor, and he and Mrs. Luke saw that they were well provided with "smokes." The Returned Soldiers' Club was the rendezvous for many of the Ajanas men, and there a right royal welcome was accorded the men by the committed and the ladies who provided a dumty afternoon tea. The Tramways Band played a programme of acceptable music on the baloony,. as an accompaniment to the tea-cup symphony within. The Aiana's draft oiime i.ut in enures of Lieutenant-Colonel Guy Powles, 0 M G., D.5.0., son of Mr. C. P. Powles, of Wellington. Lieutenant-Colonel Powles spent tho most of Ins war-time in Egypt and Palestine- with the New Zealand Mounted liilles, since when he has undergone a staff training at Cains College, Cambridge.
