DISCREDITABLE TACTICS
Undkr the above heading will bo found in our news columns to-day a. copy of a bogus proclamation which was to be soon posted on certain city hotels yesterday. The author of this document would appear to be strangely ignorant of the feelings and sense of decency of the average man and woman if he imagines that such tactics as these are likely to help the liquor_ trade in 'its fight against prohibition. _ The menace of a fresh outbreak of iuilu*
cnza is a serious enough matter_ for the public without being thrust into prominence in this "scare" fashion, and the manner in which the name of a high public official is used aggravates the offence beyond excuse. Many people who -did not read the placard closely appear to have taken it as an official notification, and were needlessly alarmed. They will lie relieved to learn that it was nothing more than an illconceived and discreditable attempt on the part of someone to win votes for the liquor trade. Who was responsible for it we do not pretend i to know.
