ECONOMY IN FINANCE
URGENT APPEAL IN BRITISH PARLIAMENT By Telegraph—Prees Association-Convrisht (Ret. March 26, 7.45 p.m.) London, March '20. Urgent demands for economy in national finance were made during tho House of Commons debate. Mr. George Lambert said it was probable that the country would be faced by an appalling Budget, totalling .£1,500.000,000. Sir Frederick Banbury said that the continuation of the present rate of expenditure would result in national bankruptcy. The nncmployment donation amounted to a premium on idleness, while the increase in the issue of currency notes, now amounting to 321 millions, against a gold reserve of 20 millions, was a serious feature. Sir George Maclean urged' a revision of the Army, Navy, and Air Estimates before June. Mr. Chamberlain agreed to a. re-exam-tnation in the light of peace terms. Our yearly expenditure in future would be greater than our total pre-war debt, and couiS only be met by increased production, . increased efficiency, and greater exports.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. !•
