IiETIEEMENT OF ME. CALLENDEE, Early nest year Mr. William Callenider will retire.from the position of general manager of .the Bank of New Zealand. Mr. Callender was born in Melbourne (where his father, the late Mr. James Callender, was in business as a merchant), and removed to Christchurch in 1868. Educated in Melbourne . and Chrietchui'ch, Mr. Callender entered the ißank of. New Zealand service at Christchurch in 1870, and made steady advance, passing through every grade in the service. / After being manager at AVnnganui and Timaru he was appointed an inspector, and in 1901 promoted to "the position of chief auditor, which lie (held until 100", when he received the appointment of general manager, in succession to Mr. Alexander Michie. The new general manager will be Mr. Henry Buckleton, who has for some years past, been manager of the bank at Auckland. Before going to Auckland Mr. Buckleton ( wb chief inspector., Previously he had been in charge of the New Plymouth branch. None of the other appointments which must follow have yet been made. A PJress Association telegram from Auckland states that 'the position of general manager was offered to Mr. B. ■W. Gibbs, manager at Dunedin, who declined it. The tank authorities, however, • state that the position was not offered to Mr. Gibbs.
