The quarterly meeting of the Pelono Fire Board was hold yesterday afternoon. There wen; present Messrs. J. W. M'Eivnn ichairman), Clung, Putcliffe, and Kerr.. The resignation of Mr. A.' P. Gndher ns doputy-supnrinbiulent was received with TOiirct, and the board's appreciation of his services was recorded in the minutes. The superintendent (Mr. Gavimr) reported that for the quarter ending March 31, 101!). the.brigade had been, called out on three occasions. All the outbreaks had been of a minor n;vtttre. The new system of staffing (ho station had been put into practice, and although causing some changes in the personnel of the brigade, the vacancies tlint he thought noewsary had been filled. Tile plant, appliances, and alarm system were in first-class working order, due mostly to the constant care ana' attention of the motoniMii. He recommended tho installing of two more alarmboxes in Jacfeon Street, at tho corner of Britannia Street and tji" corner of Victoria Strrnt. it was decided to inst.il the extra two alarms as recommended. .The report wns adopted. A meeting of the recently-formed Lower Tfutt branch of the New Zealand Labour Tarty was held on Tuesday evening at tlis Town Hall. Lower ITutt. Mr. H. Adams presiding. The secretary's report staled that the membership had increased considerably during the nast fortnight. It was unanimously decided to select candidates to contest (he forthcoming municipal and school committee elections.
