VENDORS AND COUNCILLORS. Mr. A. Petherick, secretary of the Wellington Licensed Milk Vendors' Association (Incorporated), has addressed tlio following letter to Councillor C. B. Norwood, chairman of tho Milk Committee of the City Council :-"In the Wellington daily papers of March 21 the following remarks are reported as having been made in open council:—'Councillor L. M'Konzio said one bad feature was that the vendors would not return their stale milk, but would insist on retaining it and mixing it with the fresh milk' Councillor J. 0. Shorland instanced a case in which ho 6aid he knew there was at least a strong probability of stale milk having been mixed with fresh by a vendor., v ' "Members of the association at a general meetiug held last night took strong exception, to tho remarks as reported. Thos present denied having committed such acts, and wore of tho opinion 'that a vendor would be extremely foolish to act in tho manner suggested. "I was instructed to ask if your committee will take the matter up, and in fairness to vendors generally submit to my association sufficient particulars to enable tho executive to investigte the cases and deal with the member if it is a member who may be at fault, "Whilst a member of the City Council may.make, a statement diunaeiing.in its effect, it is exnected that such councillor does so with n full sense of his responsibility, and is wepared to stand by any statement made, and make the same prood if requeued by any person or P'snciation affected. • . "It is considered that publicity should he trivon to i'lis letter enuni to ill? publicity riven to the statements referred to, and I hove therefore been instructed to forward copies to the daily papers for insertion if the papers will accord the association that privilege."
