RIFLE SHOOTING
The annual rifle meeting of the No. 5 Area Group Kifle Association will bo held at 'I'renthnin on Saturday next. The entries for this meeting establish a .record for the Dominion. No fewer than 11-17 entries have.been received at the headquarters of the group, and of the entrants, over 900 are cadets from Wellington city and suburbs. The fact of so many cadets competing gives special interest to.the meeting, . ' .
Thoro are W2 cash prizes to -bo distributed at the meeting, in addition to shields, clips, and trophies.' Tlio Minister of Defence will present the shields, cups and trophies at the conclusion, of the meeting. . Cadets under 16 years of age are to shoot wfHi .22 ammunition, Territorials, Senior Cadets, and members of rill" clubs will shoot on the Collins and Sommerville ranges. ,
The- officer com.umriding the group (Captain AY. Bell, .N.Z.S.C.)'stated yesterday that the Commandant of Trentham Camp had agreed to admit visitors to the camn on Saturday, and persons interested, in ' tho shooting, including tho parents of cadets,' would be welcome. : A special train would leave Wellington, for tho camp at is.IO a.m., returning after the nieetin* in the afternoon. Captain Bell added that he hoped employers would make a special effort to enable competitors to attend the 'meeting. Tho large number of entries received from oadets was very gratifying, and tho boys ought to be encouraged. |
