Sir, —A gross breach of rales occurred in the three-mile handicap during Saturday's meeting. Coming up the straight in 'the final lap, tho winner, to get inside running, crossed the second man when only a foot in the lead—l was directly opposite the pair when the incident occuired— and his action gave the second man a decided sot-back in his (Stride, yet not a word was said excepting by several spectators who observed tho glaring breach of rules. What was tho hordo of officials thinking about? Apropos of these officials: Why such an absurd number to carry out a few simple duties? With the sen-ices of tho excellent megaphonist the association possesses, I should say half the "dummy" officials could be cut out to tho great improvement of the sport and the appreciation of a view-blocked public—l am, etc., OLD SPORT.
