ALLEGED ILL-TREATMENT OF BLACKS
REV.. MR.. WATSON'S. STORY DENIED.
Melbourne, March 24. In connection with the statements of the Rev. Mr. Watson, alleging brutalities to tho blacks, the Minister for Home Affairs states that he does not believe there is any foundation for tho statements, but he is making inquiries. Dr. Gilruth. is positive that nothing hie what Mr. Watson alleged occurred during either his or Mr. Watson's experiences in the Northern Territory. The Superintendent of Aboriginal Settlements thinks Mr. Watson must bo referring to tho early 'sixties, when the Macks killed a number of whites, following which the blacks were outlawed and shot <iown promiscuously.—Press Assn. [At the Methodist Conference the Row Mr. Watson, missioner to aborigines in tho Northern Territory, declared that ho had stood in compounds where blacks liad been driven and men and women and children shot down. We spoke of the atrocities of the Huns, but there were men in the home districts of the Northern Territory with the same instincts. Scattered ana , raided by these whito devils whole communities were wiped out.]
