Christchurch, March 22. ."■..A unique application was made to :*tiie Arbitration Court to-day when the ■Tramway Board applied for a bonus of '10 per cent, to its employees. ;:* F. Thompson,; .-general manager, explained that the union refused to meet the board in conference. The board had 'voluntarily given a bonus of 7£ per cent, since Ootober last, and it now wished ■the Court legally to fix the bonus under the War Regulations Act. ■-■ H. Hunter, the union secretary, oppos£ed the application on the ground' that t the Chratchurch employees should revceive the same wages as were given in iWellington. He-submitted counter-pro-tpoaals. V The Court said it could not consider ■them as it could not alter tlio award /unless a ballot of members of the union Were taken on the proposed alteration. fjthe Court reserved its decision on the I itoard's application. ; ,
