Dougall to-Jay, with a request that he would consent to nomination for Hie position of Mayor of Christclnn-ch. hi intimating the desire of tho deputation, Mr. N. L. MacTSeth said Christchurch wanted a Mayor who was moderate in his views, and not an extremist Mr. Dougall said lie would liko to b« Mayor for I lie next two'years. Christchurch should have other than an extremist at the head of nff.iir?. He had considered the position, and believed it was i\ time for tolerance. He would accede to tho request of the deputation, and do his best to win any contest'that niixlit arise.
