WATERSIDE WORKERS' DEMANDS
RESOLUTION OF EMPLOYERS' ASSOCIATION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland,' Jlarch 21. The Auckland I'rovincial Employers' Association forwarded to the Chamber of Conunerco to-day tho following resolution: "Whereas this association lias learned that tho waterside workers of the Dominion havo made a concerted demand for a revision of the existing award rato of wages on tlie ground of increased cost of living, and have demanded a conference with the employers for the purpose of coming to a settlement, and whereas it is understood that tlio employers of such labour aire contemplating granting such conference, those present would most emphatically urge that, whatever tho merits of tho demand, a settlement should be nuulo through tho statutory channel, empowered under tho special provision of the AVar Legislation and Statute Law Amendment Act, 1918, to review an existing award on the grounds stated, and alone having access to tho ■necessary official data asto the cost of living, i.e., tho Arbitration Court, and that a copy of this resolution bo forwarded to the-Acting-Prime; Jliriistor"calling his attention to tho industrial confusion and unrest which will undoubtedly follow upon any other form of settlement." The chamber was asked to consider the resolution with a view to endorsement.
