DAMAGED FACES

SPECIAL HOSPITAL FOR-SOLDIERS.

The statement telegraphed from Dunedin that a special hospital for the treatment of jaw cases among returned soldiers is to be, established in Dunedin is confirmed by the Minister of . Defence. The institution is to be at Dunedin, in-order, that it may be under the direction of Professor Pickerill, head of the dental school attached to the University of Otago, who is an expert in the treatment of such cases.

"Professor Pickerill has done oxtraordinarily' good work for us in England in the treatment, of these jaw cases," said the'Minister'of Defence yesterday. "Early in llie war it. was apparent to us from the condition of the men returning to this country that men suffering iniuries to the jaw or face were not being 'satisfactorily treated in England,' and Professor Pickerill was sent Home to deal with- them there. After his arrival a special hospital for th" reception of these.'cases was established at Sidciin, and there, with a stuff of other New Zealand dentists from the Now Zealand Dental' Corps, all New Zealand soldiers suffering from wounds in the jaw were sent. Some astonishing Jesuits were achieved at'l he hospital. Now that, llie war is over, (lie hosuital is being demobilised, but there will still be goiiio of our patients there who will re- | rjnire trealmenl, and for them this special hospital is-being set un at Duuedin."
