'• \ WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION'S MEETING.

Hie annual meeting of Hie Wellington Football Association was held at the \.M.O.A .last evening, Jlr. A. 13. Wells presiding: In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet (previously published) the chairman said that it was ■gratifying to note the present position ot tlto association, in spite of the war. ri" K the past year the senior competitions had been revived, and-he trusted l-li aI: the forthcoming season would see an increase of entries. If proper efforts wero made and prominent grounds secured he was sure that large numbers ot spectators would be drawn. He emphasised that steps should be taken to secure the use of the Basin Beservc. The support of junior • players was another matter which the chairman emphasised. He stated that if the junior enthusiasts wera encouraged ho was confident that the position of the association would be considerably assured. He also referred to the encouragement of the game aniongst, schools, and stated that steps should be taken to get the pupils to take up Association football. Mr. W. Duncan seconded the motion for the adopt ion of the report and referred to the fact, that several clubs were outstanding as far as their subscriptions were concerned.

Hr. 11. M'Keown referred to the statement in the. report that the war hart proved that the encouragement of sport was necessary for the future welfare of a nation, and he stressed the necessity of having the ground fees reduced. The chairman said that it had been a continual light against the "silly and ridiculous attitude of the council over the matter of the administration of the city reserves." He did not tllink it n'ght that the committee should have to approach the council for something which they wero entitled to by right. He warned members that they would be up against the prevailing ideas of tiie City Council that the reserves should be kept ill a perfect state for the benefit of visitors. In conclusion, the chairman mentioned the probability ot the Sports Protection League taking concerted action in regard to the forthcoming municipal elections.

The motion . for the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet was carried unanimously.

On tho motion of Mr. W. Aulil, it was decided to increase the number of the Management Committeo to nino members.

Tho annual meeting of the Soatoim Association Football Cliilj was held in the Soaloun Bowling Pavilion last night, -Ur. H. Marchant presiding. The report referred to the i'aci, of last season having been a successful one, and expressed the hoiie that ;i large number of new members would be obtained this year from adjoining districts. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. It was decided to enter four loams in the Wellington Association's compelilion —Sixth C Grade, Sixth A Grade, Fifth Grade, and Junior Men's. The following officers were elected:— Patron. Air. Crawford; club captain, Mr. 11. Mnrchant; Management Committee. Jlessrs. L. M'Girr, 11. Marchant, and K. CaUister; delegate to W.F.A., Mr. L. M'Girr.
