PEACE CELEBRATION COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the Peaoe Celebration Committee was held in tho Council Chambers last evening. His Worship tho Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) presided. The Decorations Committee reported that two arches were being erected 111 Jackson Street. The one being crecteti by the Gear Company would have something like 700 coloured lights; the other one, to bo erected by Haywards. wouk bo of a neat design and illuminated eaoli evening. Flagpoles will be erected at intervals of 20 yards right along Jackson Street, to carry festoons across the street. Shopkeepers will bo asked to decorate their places with flags and to illuminate their shops at night, and alaj to have patriotic displays in their windows. Arrangements will also bo maae for verandah posts along Jackson Street to be decorated with greenery.

The following programme was arranged Procession to start at 10.30 a.m. on Monday from the railway station. The Railway Department to be a6ked to decorate and beflag the station. On arrival at the Recreation Ground a patriotic meeting will be held. The Mayor will ■preside, and tho Minister of Justice (1110 Hon. T. M. Wilford) and the Acting Prime Minister (Sir James Allen) will be invited to speak. Tho band will patriotic music, and' at 12 o clock one miuuto of absolute silence with lowered . heads fo be observed, to the memory of the men who gave their lives for tlieir country. Tho signal to bo tho Last Post" "sounded by buglers. Tho second day will be the children s day, and proba'bly tho medals provided by tlio Government will be distributed per medium of the schools. Tho whole of the proceedings will tako tho form of a huge children's picnic, under tho control ot the Children's Committee. Lunch will be provided and sports arranged. A band will bo in attendance. The Procession Committee reported tliat the following would tako part in the procession :-Gear Company, Woollen Mills, Cook and Cook, Foresters, Oddfellows, Druids, and Buffalo Lodges, St. Jolm Ambulance Brigade, Petone ex-Navals Boy Scouts, Petone Municipal Band, bal\ation Army Band, and Gear Companj Gazoo Band. There would be "- hiliite by Mr. Cassie and Mr. Whittakei. and also several motor-car owners natt promised to decorate their cars. A Maori display is also being. arranged for by Mrs. Love, and something novel and' worthy of the occasion is Promised. Monday's programme will liieludo physical drill and singing bv the school children, a Maori -display, fancy dress football match, and sports of a like natuio. In tho evening there will be a hreworks display and a musical programmo by bands and patriotic choirs. On Tuesday evening- the streets will be illuminated, and the tends ana' mill workors' patriotic choir to provide a musical programme in Jackson street. Messrs. Sunday was observed as a thanksgiving day, and addresses wore given by lirigadic! A. ICirk, of Wellington. On. Monday c\ enins a sale of goods was opened to tlio publio, the stallholders being Mosdamos .Tones. .Tanscn, and Waito Caphiiit (Miss) R. Jones and Bible Class uirls (sweets), Mrs. M'Callum, junr, and Miss Ivv llcwson (ice cream »n<Mj ft drinks), and Me;dumos Toomall and Diekie (refreshments). An excelieiu programme. consisting of anthems, micts, and solos, was renderct. by the e-ley choir. On Tuesday the sale was continued. The programme was pen by the local Salvation Army band. Other it°ms were rendered by Miss Ivy lloaro (pianoforte polo), the Misses Ivy and Gladvs lloare (dialogue), and Mrs. Adjutant Hewson, of Wellington South..
