SUGGESTIONS BY MR. AYSON,
Br TeleiraDh—Pi-ens Association. Auckland, March 19. Giving ovidenco beforo the Fisheries Commission Mr. L. F. Ayson, Inspector of Fisheries, mado the following suggestions: (1) Scientific prospecting of coastal waters, section by section, as recommended in his report of 1913, supplementary to his work in 1901 and 1907-8. (2) Scientific investigation of fish life on our fishing grounds. In this connection ho considered a marine biological station, somewhere ill tho north, a necessity 111 order to acquire accurato knowledge of the life and habits of our markot fish. The marine hatchery and biological station at Portobello, Dunedln, is doing very useful work in this connection. (3) Full inquiry into tho methods adopted in Australia with regard to packing and transportation of Ssli, and tho methods of State marketing and distribution of fish in Now South Wales and Queensland, with a view to improving methods of transportation and distribution in the Dominion. Mr. Ayson also recommended Stale assistance to returned soldiers and fishermen.
