The Canterbury Progress League, formed twelve months ago for the purpose of providing au organisation that will combine all tlis forces in this portion of the Dominion in support of a .permanent and vigorous ell'urt to develop tho resources ofthc province and advance the economic and social prosperity of its people, held its lirst council meeting to-day, when there was a very large and representative attendance of delegates. Resolutions wore passed impressing oil the Government tho urgent necessity of providing immediately adequate iacilities at Lake Coleridge to cope with the increasing demand for olcctricity, and urging tho Gov. ormcnt to establish immediately a fotato farm or State farms in Canterbury.
