EASTBOURNE AFFAIRS
RATEPAYERS' ASSOCIATION, The first annual meeting of tho Eastbourne Ratepayers' Association was hold last evening, whon tho oiecutivo committee's report was submitted. Tho report stated that tho executive took a (tad against the council inaugurating a mocor bus servico without first placing Ikfors the ratepayers the. reasons for committing tho borough to such an expense, and after repeated requests the Mayor called a public meeting, at which Mr. J. Hecnan was deputed to speak on behalf or' tho association. The council was led to see that the motor buses were not a payable proposition, and tho vehicles were taken oil' tho road. One bus and most of the sparo parts have already Tieot sold at a profit. Except for tho _ opposition in respect to tho buses, the' members of tho exocutivo committee hav-3 loyally assisted tho Mayor and councillors in every way possible. During til a influenza epidemic a housc-to-houso visit was made by members of the exocutivo, spraying and doing other work; tho executive also assisted in bringing tho rolls up to date, thereby saving tho borough great expense. T!io executive committee suggested that tho association should nominato five Candida'/s for the council and ono for the Mayi.rolt.v. The chairman of tho assooi.iti'iii, Mr. H. W. Sliortt, has had a serious nervous breakdown, and has been obliged to relinquish ofiice.
