ST. PATRICK'S DAY
SPORTS AT NEWTOWN PARK
LIST OF PRIZE-WINNERS
Weather conditions favoured tlip celebration of St. Patrick's Day yesterday, and green badges were in ovidence throughout the city and predominated at Newtown Dark, where an excellent sports programme was enthusiastically contested. A procession marched through the city via Courtemiy Place- to Newtown Park, where all were able to thoroughly enjoy themselves. Headed by the Native Association's Band, under Lieutenant Herd, the procession comprised 150 St. Patrick's College cadets, the children from the Jlarist Brothers' and Convent Schools, members of the Hibernian Society, and numerous lorries tearing patriotic tableaux. Following in motor-cars were numerous representatives of die Catholic clergy, including His Grace Archbishop O'Shen. The attendanco at Newtown.Park constituted a record. The park was thronged with adults and children, and all appeared to be enjoying the- programme so admirably arranged. A special feature of tho function at the park was a spectacular display by a thousand children, who were paraded on tho green m the formation of a gigantic harp, tho girls providingi the outline and the boys tho strings. Viewed from the surrounding heights the effect was most picturesque, and tho display certainly reflected much credit on the supervisor, the Rev. Bro. Eusobius. In-connection with the procession, tho special prize awarded for tne best display went to the Kilbirmc children, who presented a tableau representing "Erin—a Nation." This was arranged on a four-horse lorry owned and driven by Mr. T. Herily.
