The Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald, Minister of Agriculture, has arranged to leave for the south this evening. He will attend tho Ashburton A. and P. Show.
His Grace Arohbishop Redwood celebrated yesterday tho forty-sixth anniversary of his consecration as a Bishop. He told the Hibernian Society at their annual Communion breakfast on Sunday that he had to get a special indult from the Holy See to be consecrated on St. Patrick's Day, which lie had desired on account of his long association with Dundalk College and generally with Irish people in their own' country.
Mr. A. M'Farlane, of Pahiatua, announced at the conclusion of the annual meeting of the Harbour Board yesterday that,ho would not again be n candidate, as he was leaving the district for tho benefit of his health. On behalf of,the board, tho chairman (Mr. C. E. Darnell) expressed regret at Mr. MTarlana s determination, and the loss the retirement of such a valued member, representing the country interests, would lie to tho Board. He hoped that the chango contemplated by Mr. M'l'arlane would be highly beneficial to his health. Mr. Al'Farlane intends to tako up his residence on the Marine Parade, Napier, having been' ordered sea bathing.
Police Superintendent J. Dwyer, of Christchurch, is at present on a visit to Wellington. Dr. Martindale Kendall has returned to Wellington from tho South Island.
At' a meeting of the Wellington Patriotic Band last night Mr. Arch. «. Taylor, one of the members, who was recently married, was presented with a clock. Mr. W. Jupp, fen., in making tho presentation on behalf of the band, referred to the good qualities of Mr. Taylor as a .bandsman. Mr. Taylor suitably replied.
Signor Cavaliero Eles, Royal Italian Consul for Australasia, has been appointed bv His Majesty the Kins; of Italy Consul-General for South China, HoncICong, and Macao, with headquarters in Hong-Kong. With the agreement of both tho Italian and tho Belgian Governments, i lie Royal Italian Consulale-t>on-eral in Melbourne will bo temporarily in charge of M. Lamvers, Consul-beneral for Belgium.
