Inquiries made on behalf of the Dunedin "Star" in that district produ.ee tho belief that the .farmers there are having the best season they have ever known. A competent, and experienced settler vrites:—"l estimate 'tli'at the wheat in North Otago and South .Canterbury will go fully "10 bushels to the aore over the average, rind oats twice •as much a3 last year...-One small paddock of oats (10 ceres) has yielded 105 bushels to the acre. -Fifty : ' acres of 'wheat belonging to one ran have thrash- ,€«; out 70 bushels to ■ lie acre. The farmer who does not get 40 bushels' of wheat thinks himself aggrieved; Barley is. also good. I have heard a 70-acro "paddock'yielding 71 bushels to the acre. ■The prospects in North Otago are the ..best ever ezioyed. The wheat crop I estimate at oo to 4-5 bushels per awe f.:i; .round, and oats about 50 bushels. Grass, .turnips, and rape are a'so well above the average.'.
