Unless something unforeseen happens, says ail exchange, Pastor Ries will not contest the Mayoralty, in which case he will support Councillor Anderson. Plans of a permanent' AYar Memorial for AA : oodville, to take the form of new municipal buildings, including a town Ball, library and reading room, were on view at the meeting of the council / held during the week. The scheme was inaugurated by the Mayor, and the stiggeated site is (adjoining tho present municipal buildings. The estimated cost of the buildings, in brick, is <£11,000, and the town hall will have a seating capacity of 1500 people. The plans were prepared by a AA'ellington architect, free of cost, and so far the council has not Qommitted itself to any expense whatever. Bowling teams- from ilie Pihama and AA r averley Clubs (Taranaki) will shortly make a tour of Hawke's Bay.. Napier stationers have been' advised of it further advance in many lines of S3 pei cent, on last year's prices. Highgrade pencils arc almost unprocurable. The Hastings branch of tho Returned Soldiers' Association is making arrangements.fot welcoming Major-General/ Sir A. Russell, on his return home.
