ST. PATRICK'S DAY CELEBRATIONS

The St. Patrick's Day sports are to ho hold at Newtown Park on Monday next, and 11 highly attractive programme hag been arranged. Now that amateur athletics are making a fresh spurt as a result of the return of our soldiers, the various events aro expected to bo ivell contested. Special events have been set aside for members of amateur alhlctic clubs. The Highland dancing and Irish jig competitions aro expected to draw big entries, and the committee is hopeful of making this a special feature of the dav- Messrs. Ronald and Mac Camp-, bell will provido the piping music, and will take part in tlio precession. Mr.- J. D. M'Phee will act as judge of the dancing events. Tho baby show, which is olwavs a success from tho cntrv point of view, is to recoive increased prizemouw. Tho matron of St. Helen's Hospitil has been specially requested to judge the event. A surprise packet scheme has also been inaugurated, and wi'l be in charge of Mr. C. .T. Pfaff. Tho Mnrist Brothers' Old Boys' Association will have charge of tho side-shows. A drill display outlined with tho sliapo of a harp will be a feature of tho day, One thousand children will tako part. Tho'Eov. Bro. Busebius is superintending the display. Several Stato schools Imvp alroftdv entered for the primary schools relav race. Tho national concert is to tako place in tho Town Hall in the evening. Tho artists ongaged aro Signor Ccsaroni. Messrs. Farquhar Young,''of Christchurch, and Kevin Dillon, Misses Violet Lainacroft, Teresa M'Unroe, and Anno Sullivan. The Marist Bros.' school choirs will open cach part of tho concert. and a four-handed reel will be danced, accompanied by pipes.
