N.Z. WELFARE LEAGUE
! A NEW POLITICAL PARTY TO GRAPPLE AFTER-WAR PROBLEMS At a well-attended meeting of delegates from all parts of the Dominion held in Wellington on Wednesday it was unanimously resolved to constitute a league, called the New Zealand Welfare League. The following official report is supplied What actuated the formation of the ' league was the feeling that the problems awaiting solution after the war required ability, sincerity, and responsibility in the electcd representatives of ~ the people for their settlement, and the ® necessity to oppose I lie, propaganda and i activities of those sections of tho com- » munity which openly espouse Bolshevik or revolutionary principles. The league's' chief undertaking will be to organise all 11 men who support stable government and 'j a policy of sane progress, favouring no one class of the country; and lo get e them to the poll. It will also influence a tho selection of suitable and responsible p > candidates for Parliament, and endeavour n to raiso the personal standard of the people's representatives in Parliament. ® The principal objocts of the loaguo are ? thus stated:— 11 To organise all who support stable government and a policy of sane C J progress, favouring 110 one class of 't the community. y To oppose the revolutionary poli- ® tical propaganda, while giving support I to tliß legitimate rights of Labour. II To educate public opinion with Tee spect to political problems of the day !_ such as '■> Tho health and well-being of '• children; A bettor understanding between eme plover and employee; i- The fallacy of restricted output, i- The. necessity of increased production to meet interest on war loans, t pensions, and to permit of an increase of wages, the reduction of cost of living; e And generally to promote good 1- government to ensure the general r welfare of all elnsses. n To assist in the repatriation of :l soldiers and their reabsorplion into e civil life. !- To select suitable and responsible men for Parliament and other public e bodies. '- The league is independent of and unr pledged to any of the existing parlies, t and aims at securing the due influence e at the polls of the large bedv of sano moderate opinion; and tho election of r men of constructive ability. . Prompt steps will be taken to form branches of the league throughout y New Zealand.
