THE CONFERENCE; IN CHRISTCHURCIL Delegates from the Y.AV.C.A. Executive Conference returned this woclc from Clu-isteliurch to different parts of the Dominion. Matters of policy relating to tho work of the Young Wonioii's Christian Association vrcro discussed, and in relation to the question of independence from Australia tho majority voted for independence. Other subjects for consideration were the religious life of the association in the light of tho new era upon which tho modern |'irl lias entered. Community aiul extension work, plans for working hostels, and for reaching the girl in hot*, teens, were also given thought and time. Each topic was led by an expert worker in her specialised subject. A 'number of influential women gathered to hear Miss Snelson, the Y.AV.C.A. national secretary, speak on girls' share m the work of the war and of the changes tho ne»v environment had wrought in the character, dispositions, and outlook of gils as a. -whole. The men o the Advisor Hoard' of tho Ohristchurch Y.W.C.A., as well the women who gathered to near Mips Snelson, expressed warm appreciation or tlw prompt action the YA\ .C.A, had taken in following the girls engaged in munition and all kinds of war e«eti to the front, and in meeting their new needs. Thousands of girls are using the clubs and hostels to-day that were established in England during the war. Sixty new members have joined tho | VW.C.A. (1 nrin!? the months of January i and February, and next Thursday night these will he officially welcomed at tho devotional meeting at 8 o clock. All Y.AV.C.A. members are invited to be present. . ~ , Miss Clachan promises an excellent musical programme for the ' social at the Y.AV.C.A. to-night. Many expressions of appreciation have eome from those who attend these weekly gatheringsfor fun and music, and j'hov are steadilj increasing in popularity.
