MIRAMAR BOROUGH

* MEETING Or THE COUNCIL. The Mayor (Mr. IT. Townsend) presided over tho meeting of the Miramar Borough Council, held last evening, and Jliero wore present: Councillors S. H. Underwood, M. Tra?y, W. H. Green, H. K. Ilobertshaw, and C. A. Chapman. Tho secretary Scots College wrote asking that street lamps bo placed on tho northern road leading to the school. It was decided that'the work be carried out as soon as the material was available. A largo deputation from tho Seatoun and Bays Progressive Association waited on tho council and urged the desirability of arranging for a . polling booth in the city for tho forthcoming borough election. Mr. E. Collie pointed out the disadvantages tho residents laboured under. Many were working all day in the city and 'therefore found it inconvenient to vote at a l>ootli in tho borough. . The Mayor pointed out that althouga the Municipal Corporations Act only allowed a borough to have a booth outside its boundary when such booth was located in the public office of the borough, tho Local Elections and Polls Aft. distinctly states that no election could lie questioned by reason of tho fact that the tirst-nien-tioned Act was not complied with. 1 lie pjoposal received the favourable consideration of the council. The district electors' list was examined and adopted as the roll for tho forthcoming election.
