NEW ZEALAND BISLEY

g MATCHES CONTINUED YESTERDAY'S SCORING Beautiful weather again favoured the continuation of the annual prizo meeting of-the Dominion Ritle Association at ttrijntham yesterday. Early in tho morning: the atmosphere was very cold, and a thick fog lay' right across, tho range. After breakfast, however, the aun shone out; very hot, and there being scarcely nis; breeze, conditions were ideal for gooH; shooting. During the morning tho Auckland Match was fired. This was tho second match of tho Belt series, and tho distances were ten shots at 800 yds. and BOOyHs.,' figure targets being used. The wiftnor turned out to "be a competitor froiri~;tho Auckland province, Rifleman HS'fe] Keene, of tho Dargavillo Rifle Club, who scored 95 out of a possible 100? I '' s At 300 yds., Keene put on 49, just misfrag the possible by one point. All at this range were bull's-eyes, ivitlf'the exception of the fourth, which inner. His performance at. 500'vds. was not quite so good, the sequence of his ten shots, making up his scoitf of 46, being as follows:—4, 5, 5, 4, S.-'Sy 5. 4, 5, 4. Lieutenant F. Reichel, ofethe Reserve of Officers, followed hot ir,JO)i ICeene's trail with a score of 94, made up of 45 at 300 yds. and 49 at the longer distance. 'l'he third shot at BOOvds. was an inner, which was responsible for his failing to reach tho pos- . sible 50- There wero three 4's and a magpie in his first range score. In tho Wellington Match, fired at 500 yds. and B00»ds. on Wednesday, Keene made 84 and Reichel 83.. Lieutenant AA r . N. Masefieli, 12th (Nelson) Regiment, the preEent holder of the Championship Belt, which he won at the last meeting of the association held in 1914, did not fare very well in the Auckland Match, scoring only 79. At 300 yds. he scored 42, made up of three bulls, six inners, and one magpie, and at 500 yds. ho dropped to 37, composed of two bulls'-eyes, three 4's, and five 3's. Rifleman Geo. Halliday, of Karori, an ex-lung's Prizeman, made 88, and another ex-champion, Rilleman R. J. King, of Opaki, scored 87. Two other former champions, Captain R. M. Irvine. of Nelson, and Rifleman F. H. James, of Okawa, put on 81 each. Yesterday afternoon was devoted to the Bring of the AVestland Match, 300, 500, and COO yards, seven shots at each dis< tance.. Figure targets were used at 300 and 500 yards, and the match, which was the third of the Belt series, was won by Captain. R. A. Irvine, of Nelson, who ■scored 96 out of the possible of 105. Captain Irvine won the championship in 1906, and he has been always noted as a consistent shot. The runner-up was Rifleman R. J. King, of Opaki, who also made 9!i, but was awarded second place owing to his score not being so good at the longer range as that of Captain Irvine. , The CI Cup, donated by Messrs. Joseph Nathan and Co., Wellington, for presentation to the highest aggregate, scorer in the Opening and AVestland Matches, was •won by Ritfeman R. J. King (Opaki), •whose total points were 188. The programme for to-day will comprise the Service Championship, the Canterbury Match, ten shots at 600 yards, and Nelson and Otago Matches, each ten shots at 800 yards. The Quick March or "Running Man" Match will also be completed. The conclusion of the Canterbury and Nelson and Otago Matches will finish the Belt, series, the fifty highest aggregate scorers in which will fire off for ' the King's Prize and Champion Rifle Belt on Saturday afternoon. The eight competitors who are leading in the race for the ■Belt are: Rflmn. P. Morgan, Christchurch R.C., 209; Rflmn. G. Halliday, Karori, 2(iS; Rflinn. S. Elliott, Akarana, 266; Lieut. A. J.
