PETONE DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL

The monthly meeting cf the Petone District High School Committee was held last evening. Mr. l>. Jl'Kenzie presided, and there were present Messrs. J. Kyle (secretary), Ashby, Abrahall, Matl thows,- Jl'Gallum, lurk, Leavey, and Armstrong. Tho headiniister (Mr. C. N. Haslaui) reported that a good average attendance had , been maintained. Owing to the caretaker leaving the door of the office unlocked some, person had entered and broken open with a spade the drawers of his table and the doors of the store cupboard. The property so far found to be missing consists of four football jerseys, office stamps' to the value of Is. IOJd., and a leather brief bag. The matter bad been hunded to the policrf for investigation. The report was adopted. Tho chairman (Mr. D. M'Kenzie) moved: "That the Wellington Education Board be requested to communicate with the Hon. J. A. Hanan, Minister of Education, so that he may negotiate with, the Hon. Minister of Lands to arrange for the transfer to the Education Department of a suitable area of land as a site for the Hutt Valley Secondary College, situated on the Wilford Settlement, which is on the boundary lino of tho Hutt and Petone. .The Wilford Settlement comprises 01 acre®, and it should bo part of a town-planning scheme for educational requirements. The land is good aud the environment could be made beautiful with very little outlay. The Council of Education, tho t Education Board, and the District High , School Committee having approved and decided-upon the Secondary College for the Volley, tho committee would be pleased if the bonrd would ask the Minister for a grant for the immediate erection of the building. The Wellington Colleges being overcrowded, tho committee suggest that 'before any additions are mado to tho Wellington institutions the erection of the Hutt Valloy College be givoa preference." The resolution was seconded by Mr. Abrahall and carried.
