CHEAP FRUIT AND STREET HAWKERS.

(An Open Letter to tho Public.) Ladies and Gentlemen,—ln The Dominion yesterday morning there appears a paragraph referring to this subject. Wo are not concerned at present as to whether it is just for the City Corporation to grant a street licenso to. a Hindu almost in front of an established business, but we wish to contradict the statement published that street hawkers are able to and do'sell at lower prices than shopkeepers. Speaking for ourselves—and we are not concerned with other people's businesses —we undertake to say that our firm's prices are as low or lower than those of any street hawker, and there is no reason why they should hot be, as street hawkers have no opportunities of buying which are not open to every retailer, ' We admit that occasionally on some street barrows fruit is sold at apparently very low prices, but it is of such quality that most shopkeepers, and even somo ba.rrowmen, would refuse to handle it. Wo undertake that our firm's prices will always bo found at loast aslow as any street hawker's, notwithstanding any statement' to the contrary made by the secretary of the Retail Fruiterers' Assooiation or anyone else.—We are, etc., HAWKE'S BAY FRUIT CO., 119 Cuba Street.
