CENTRAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE .

The council of tho Wellington Central Chamber of Commerco met yesterday ■afternoon, Mr. A._ Leigh Hunt (presiding). A communication was received from tho N.Z. Fruitgrowers' Federation, Ltd., requesting the co-operation of the chamber in asking tho Government to appoint commercial agents to procure reliable information in North.and South America, India, China, Japan, and elsewhere as to the possibilities of providing fresh markets for New Zealand primary products. It was decided to ask the federation delegates to-meet the chambers at an early date. ■ / SV verbal report was submitted by Mr. Cotton and the secretary (Mr. Peth'orick) on the social function held recently at Shannon in connection with the "hydroelectric power scheme. Both delegates stated that they were very much impressed with the idea of the commencement of the three schemes, and stated that the Minister of Public Works had intimated his intention of having the' work put in hand at once, and that ho hoped to have a sum placed on the Estimates for the coming session. An intimation was received from tho Acting-Prime Minister (Sir James Allen) that the chamber's remiest that Government Departments give' full recognition to the chamber would be brought before the Minister in charge of Industries and Commerce.
